We try to help save the gifts we were given, like the earth.
Here, Devon tries out our new, no-gas, human-powered lawnmower.

Our team meetings are always very intense!

Applewicks looks forward to the Special Olympics. Here we are, cheering the Torch Runner on, wearing Special Olympics Torch Run tee-shirts donated by Michelin.
Cyndi and Derek sand the lunchroom tables. Over the summer vacation, the tables will receive a fresh coat of paint.

At day's end, many of our core members like to write in their journals so that they can share their day with those at home.
Here Devon helps Derek with his journal.

2008
Applewicks and Discoveries took part in a fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. We donated money and dressed in red. Some of us had special people in our lives that have had to deal with these health issues. We wrote their names on our paper hearts to show our support. We also had a healthy lunch of brown rice, veggies and tofu. which we really enjoyed...Really!

Aimee and John are working hard in the weaving studio. Aimee started as Applewicks Program Coordinator in January 2008

2009
Applewicks and Discoveries took part once again in a fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. This year we raised over $180.00. It seems this will become an annual fundraiser. We have a great lunch, tons of fun and all for a good cause.
FRIENDS WE HAVE MADE

Liz worked at Applewicks from Jan 2003 until Nov 2006. She left Applewicks to become House Responsible at Burnside House. Liz also teaches two sign classes here at Applewicks which are open to all.

Devon worked at Applewicks as Program Coordinator from Sept 03, 2002 to Jan 2008. Devon moved from her position at Applewicks to that of Finance and Administration Coordinator at L'Arche Homefires.
Lorraine began as a volunteer with Applewicks and moved onto the staff in 2007 to cover for Sandy's maternity leave. Lorraine remains a friend of the community as she continues her studies at Acadia.

In Loving Memory
Sandy Baxter
Applewicks team member from 1999-2008
Our friend Sandy passed away after a motor vehicle accident in 2008. We will miss her many gifts and her presence at Applewicks. We will continue to be friends with her husband Peter and their two little girls, Quinn and Nova.

Deanna began work in August 2007. She worked in our candle shop. She shared her many gifts with us. Deanna left us in July 2008 to move to the city with her new husband Thomas. We will miss both Deanna and Thomas but feel sure they will come back for a visit or two.

John began his journey with L'Arche on Nov 19, 1991. John was one of two founding members of our community. John worked very hard in our candle shop from its begining until 2009 when he made the transition to our retirement program, Discoveries. John is busy these days coloring bags and cards for Applewicks. He enjoys bowling, and recycling, and a weekly vistit the pub. We still get to see John's smile three times a week at drumming, sign class and for recycling.
