Weaving
The Weaving Studio
Nine of Applewicks' eleven core members are weavers. A number of them are pictured below, busy at some of the tasks involved in creating wonderful woven scarves, stoles, place mats, serviettes, table runners, tea cozies, one-of-a-kind handbags, and much, much more. It takes team work to create our products.

Every weaving project begins with the selection of a product and choice of colour or colours of cotton (from a palette of more than 70 available). warp is then designed for one of our ten looms.

The warp is then wound, by hand, on our warping mill

After the warp is wound, it is threaded through the loom's reed, as Edna is doing here.

The next step is to roll the warp onto the loom. At right are Lori, one of our weavers, and Deanna, a community college placement student, rolling a warp onto Lori's loom.

The joy of weaving can then begin.
Kristy, one of our weavers, begins work on one of Applewick's signature rainbow scarves.

During the weaving process, rags are used to separate individual woven pieces from one another. When a warp has been finished, the the rags are removed, so that each piece - scarves, serviettes, place mats, etc. - can be hand finished.

Christina, one of our weavers, is putting the finishing touches on a woven place mat by tying the fringe.

Cyndi works on Marketing and Sales. Here she creates tags for each product that lets everyone know it was made in a very special workshop.

John prepares bags for the store with his own artwork.

Brenda, one of our weavers, puts tags on John's bags to let our customers know that these bags are made especially for them.
