Discoveries
Discoveries is our most recent day program. It started as we recognized that some of our more senior people were retiring from work but still wanted something special in their daily life. Discoveries is a small program, currently there are just two people who attend and both live in our homes. Our dream is to be supported to expand this program in time. We realize that even though people are retired they still want to participate in activities and to meet other people. Discoveries has a slower pace which takes into account people interests and also their abilities each day. The activities each day depends on people’s energy level. For example if someone is feeling a little more tired and needs to have a nap in the afternoon. Activities at Discoveries include card making, crafts, outings, going for lunch out occasionally, watching T.V. , bowling, day trips, assistance with banking and sometimes with medical appointments. Discoveries also attends sign class and celebrations that are organized in Applewicks and Cornerstone. All places at Discoveries are funded through the Department of Community Services. When spaces become available at Discoveries we work together with the DCS Care Coordinator to fill the space.
