For People with Disabilities (Participant/Core Member)

HomeShare may be a good option if you want more independence and more choice in where you live. It’s for people who want to live in the community, build new relationships, and have a stable place to call home—all with the right supports in place.

Getting started with HomeShare:

  1. Expressing interest
    Contact L’Arche Homefires HomeShare Coordinator, Carrie (902-542-3520 or homeshare@larchehomefires.org) or express interest through your Local Area Coordinator (LAC). Local Area Coordinators s are available to individuals regardless of their eligibility for the Disability Support Program.


    Contact your local Opportunities and Social Development office in Nova Scotia’s Western Region (https://novascotia.ca/coms/department/contact/WesternOffices.html) or call the main line:1-877-424-1177

  2. Matching
    The coordinator will match you with a screened HomeShare provider in the community. You’ll meet with the coordinator and provider to see if its the right fit through a person-directed approach.

  3. Establish the Agreement
    Finalize the arrangement, which includes your individualized funding supporting the cost of room, board, and support.

  4. Start Participating in HomeShare
    Join the L’Arche Homefires community and receive ongoing support and monitoring through our coordinators and staff.
