Welcome to our community

We love to welcome new Assistants to the role of living with, supporting and developing friendships with our Core Members (persons with intellectual disabilities).
Assistants come to L’Arche from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many assistants have university degrees, or previous job experience outside this scope. We also welcome people who have completed their secondary education or who choose to take a gap year following completion of their secondary education. Some come to L’Arche as a shift from a previous career. We also are happy to serve as a practicum site for students who are completing education in a relevant field of study. Canadian Assistants will also share their lives in our communities with Assistants who come from around the world.
While there is no particular background or experience required to succeed in the role, we find that a desire to support others, to be part of a team, to experience community life, to develop friendships and to discover our shared human spirituality makes for a great Assistant experience.
We invite you to join us!
